About me

I'm Mitali, a senior service designer, strategic researcher, and design coach based in Australia. Over the past decade I've helped organisations across government, banking, health, transport, energy, telco, and retail figure out what they're actually solving for then design services that work for the people using them, and make sure those changes actually land.

I came up through consulting, which means I've had to earn credibility fast, in industries where design isn't always understood or valued. That's shaped how I work: pragmatically, collaboratively, and always with one eye on implementation, not just the insight.

Strategic Design Leadership I work closely with product managers, senior leaders, and executive teams to bring clarity to complex transformation programs. My consulting background means I'm used to making the abstract tangible, turning ambiguous briefs into clear directions, and research into decisions that leadership teams can act on with confidence.

Research & Discovery I lead mixed-methods research across the full spectrum, from generative discovery to evaluative testing and I'm particularly skilled at synthesis: finding the signal in the noise and translating it into actionable direction. I've run research programs in large-scale digital transformation, enterprise platform rollouts, and early-stage product discovery.

Product & Service Delivery I've brought products and services to market for consumers, enterprises, employees, and citizens. I care as much about making change stick as I do about the design itself. That means working across teams, with change managers and operations leads, to implement services that hold up in the real world.

How I work

I do my best work in environments where complexity is respected but not used as an excuse to stall. I'm comfortable moving between strategic thinking and hands-on craft — running a leadership co-design session in the morning and reviewing a prototype in the afternoon.

My sweet spot: Cross-functional teams tackling hard service problems — where research needs to inform strategy, and strategy needs to survive contact with reality.

What makes me different: I coach and mentor the designers around me as a matter of course, not as a side project. Leaving a team more capable than I found it is something I consider part of the job, leading with emotional intelligence.

Background

Professional Journey

My service design journey began in 2014 through networking and freelancing. A pivotal moment came in early 2015 when I landed a corporate role at Telstra through a hackathon, where I spent over 1.5 years learning about emerging technologies, agile practices, and enterprise systems.

This experience opened doors to consulting roles across service design, UX research, and experience design, as well as strategic in-house positions.
